GATE / NET 2012 study material and Ebooks for CSE computer science
Having proper study material is the first step of any exam prepration , This is also true of GATE/NET exam . Below are the recommended books which you can use to prepare for GATE/NET exam . Infact these books must be in your study materail collection .
Here is the list of recommended books which are listed subject wise

The three best book for DBMS are

What about units in the paper-II?

All the units in the paper-II are equally important. I think it is a good idea to leave the unit Current Trends and Technologies. You have to spend more time and energy to conquer that unit since it is a collection of different topics. Most of the questions from that unit may be out of syllabus questions.

Best Elective (paper-III)

In paper-III(Elective), we need to cover only one unit from the five units. It is good idea to choose Finite Automata and Formal Languages or Unix and Windows. Both units will help you to cover some other units.

Unix and Windows has three related units Operating Systems, Operating Systems with Case Study of Unix and Current Trends and Technologies.The topic YACC from this unit comes in System Software and Compilers and Programming Concepts.

Some topics from the unit Finite Automata and Formal Languages comes in Discrete Structures and Programming Concepts. Some topics in the System Software and Compilers need the knowledge of Finite Automata and Formal Languages.

The unit Finite Automata and Formal Languages requires problem solving ability. So if you choose this unit as elective, you should buy a textbook for practicing exercies. We use Peter Linz's Finite Automata and Formal Languages as reference book.
